I have started to take photos of sunsets in the various places I find myself. While my eye for composition is not any better than any other Joe on the street, it often doesn't matter with scenes like these. There is something naturally compelling about the vividly saturated colors, sweeping patterns of cloud, and often stark contrasts at the horizon, between sky and earth. Just being there with open eyes is to participate in one of earth's most common, yet amazing displays. Perhaps the photos on this page can capture a fraction of the impression.

We were on our way back to Denver, stopping long enough for me to see how the clouds would develop. This particular cloud, lit up like a clump of molten cotton candy, caught my eye along the way. It's got a certain classic Western feel, to me. Just pretend the power pole is a cactus, to complete the setting.
